The relationship with Allah

 By Fadel Soliman

A personality is nothing but a bunch or relationships, relationship with God, relationship with Parents, Spouse, Children, neighbors, and friends, others who we don’t know but we see regularly in the street or means of transportation.

When we see that Allah (swt) created Adam and ordered all the angels to prostrate themselves for him, that was not to announce a new god but rather a new creature who is unlike all other creatures, a creature who has superiority in knowledge, which made him a VIP creature, the trustee chosen by Allah to be the master ruler of this planet.

All this proves that there is a very special relationship with Allah, and of course my relationship with my Creator would be more important than my relationship with anyone else, even my dear wife and my beloved daughter and my funny son, even more important that my relationship with my mother who bore me 9 months in her womb, took care of me in my childhood.

It is important for any relationship to be a successful one that its terms are well understood by its parties, so as for our relationship with Allah to be successful we need to understand and fulfill its terms.

But the terms with the relationship with God are not negotiable but they are rather facts that need to be well defined and comprehended by man.

1. Allah is the Creator

He emphasized on this fact by mentioning the word creation with its derivatives about 200 times in the Quran

The word make was mentioned about 300 times in a way that serves the meaning of the creation

And we have made the skies (21:32)

And we have made on earth mountains… (21:31)

The word “start” 11 times

Allah is the one who started the creation and will redo it all again… (29:19)

The word “image”

He is the One who gives you your image in the wombs… (3:6)

And many other terms that all serve the meaning of the creation

So it is very important to understand that Allah is your Creator

2. Allah is the Owner

Ownership is not necessarily acquired through buying or selling but also through creation, a poet is actually the owner of all rights of his poem, not because he bought it from anyone but because he made it. For Allah is the highest example, he made us, created us and what's around us so therefore He owns us and what we own.

Say O Allah the owner of the dominion… (3:26)

3. Allah has full control on the universe

Who said that we are not owners? We are also owners, some of us own land, some own houses, cars etc.

But what is the difference between our ownership and His ownership?

Imagine that you have a piece of land, in which there are trees on which there are apples. Who would be the owner of these apples? You, of course! Can you control the amount of the apples or the quantity of the apples? So we are owners who do not have full control on our possessions.

Allah (swt) has full control on everything in the universe

4. Allah is the الرازق the Sustainer

He has control on the heavens and the earth He gives provision to who He wills… (42:12)

He provides for all His creation for the fish in the streams, the birds in the skies and with His awesome mercy He is even providing to those who deny His very existence

5. Allah is the Guide

Allah is the One who created everything then guided…

Simply because creation without guidance is Chaos, while guidance will make this universe be in a strong intact system

How can people know how to make a living, through theft or work, how to procreate through fornication or marriage, etc...

A great exegesis of the Quran called Mujahid said that Allah guided the animals to where they can eat and drink in order to survive, and He did the same to us but also guided us to the right path and the wrong path.

After all these facts or terms of the relationship with our Lord, doesn't He have the right to command and be obeyed? The relationship is summarized in a very short but also strong verse of the Quran

By His command is the creation and the command… (7:54)

He did His part perfectly but did we do ours, did we obey His command?

Did we rush to help the oppressed, the poor, and the needy?

Did we show kindness to our parents, neighbors or fellow brothers and sisters in religion or in humanity?

No we didn't, so what did He do to us? Did He punish us with what we deserve? Did He destroy us?

No, actually He is sending us messages, 24 hours 7 days a week, continuous broadcasting telling us come to me and you will find me Merciful and Tender and Loving.

Listen to this message which He is sending to us after all the sins which we are committing:

أَلَمْ يَأْنِ لِلَّذِينَ آَمَنُوا أَنْ تَخْشَعَ قُلُوبُهُمْ لِذِكْرِ اللَّهِ وَمَا نَزَلَ مِنَ الْحَقِّ

Hasn't the time arrived for the believers for their hearts to be engaged in all humility in the remembrance of Allah and the remembrance of the truth… (57:16)

Say O my servants who extremely wronged themselves, despair not of the mercy of Allah, for Allah forgives all sins, for He is the All Forgiving Allah Merciful, and return back to your Lord and submit to Him… (39:53-54)

Escape to Allah. Not from Him.

Prophet Muhammad (saws) said: “Satan was never seen weaker and humiliated and mad as on the day of Arafa.”

To understand this hadith, we need to speak about Islam and its universality. It is the religion which is suitable for all people, not limited to the followers of and person or any group or any region, Islam is the religion of collective work, consultation with others.

It is the sunnah that a Muslim prays 5 times with his neighbors in the mosque close to them, also a sunnah that small mosques close on Friday and only the main big mosque in Town is opened so that the Muslims of the town can meet weekly, also the sunnah is to close all mosques on the day of Eid and the Muslims of the city meet in the open air outside the city and it is a must that all the Muslims of the world are represented every year in Hajj which is the general assembly of the Muslims of the whole world in Makka, and it is the duty of every Muslim to be a delegate at least once .

The Quran told us who is our role model, our example:

لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآَخِرَ

And he was an immigrant, who left Makka with tears in his eyes saying: “O Makka, let know that you are the dearest city to my heart and had not your people drive me out of you I could have never left you.” But after 8 years Makka was opened back to him and he entered it victoriously but he never went and lived there until he died. Because, he fully integrated himself in Madina, the new city which helped him and gave him support at a time when everybody rejected him.

He loved his new country and said “O Allah bear witness that I loved Madina and the people of Madina, and if they go in any way I would be going their way”.

He even changed his culture in a way that adapts with the new culture but under the condition that it doesn't contradict with his religion

He asked lady Aisha when she came back from a wedding “did you have fun?” she said yes, he said what did you sing? She said nothing. In a blaming tone he said “How come you don't sing you makans? Don't you know that the people of Madina love singing? You are not in Makka any more you are now in Madinah. Why didn't you sing for them “we came here we came...” and he suggested a song that could have been very suitable for a wedding.

Here in Europe as we took from them their support in the time of need we should also give them something back and there is nothing more precious than Islam, so let us share it with them

a verse that scares me in the Quran , it says that on the day of judgment some people will be held accountable for things that they never expected.

Thinking that they are going directly to paradise because they did not drink or gamble or fornicate, they will find Millions of people grabbing them from their necks and saying: O Allah they did not tell us about you, they came to our countries as refugees and workers and students and they used to deal with us and buy from us and sell to us but they never told us about you.

We need to be examples in order to give dawa every time we want to give a good example we go back to Andalusia, no we want to tell them look at Muslims in Norway.

A Good Muslim respects the law of the country, speaks the language of the country, participates in the development of the country, offers the good which he has with people in the political arena, and in the economic arena and in the social arena.

A good Muslim should contribute to the society in Philosophy, or in scientific research or in arts or in education.

A good Muslim is loyal to the country which doesn't mean that he has to agree to everything, actually being loyal is to tell the truth and speak against any wrong oppressive foreign policies or internal policies

But you have to know that you belong to this country even if they are non-believers, as Moses said

O my people 49 times in Quran from prophets to the non-believers

And remember when Moses told his people O my people why are you hurting me even though you know that I am the messenger of God to you

You were the best nation when you enjoined the good and forbade the evil and believe in God
