Dunya or Jennah?
It was stated by Al Hakim in his book Al Mustadrak - and also told by others, that the Prophet Muhammed (SAWS) told about some travelers that ran out of provisions in the middle of the desert. Their horses/camels got extremely tired, but realized that they couldn’t go back or reach their destination. While they were in the middle of nowhere, a man suddenly showed up without any signs that he had been travelling. He said: “Behind you are green gardens and water streams. Follow me, and I will take you there so that agony goes from you.” The travelers saw no other options but to follow the man. When they reached the gardens and water streams, they ate and drank until they were full. Then the man told them: “Didn’t I found you lost, tired, hungry and thirsty?” They replied: “Yes!” Then the man asked: “Didn’t I show you the way out?” “Yes”, they replied. “Now I am telling you that behind you are even greener gardens and better water streams. Follow me.” The group of travelers divided themselves in two groups; one party meant that the man said the truth and decided to follow him. The other party chose to stay in the same land and not to follow the man.
That man was prophet Muhammed (SAWS) and the travelers were the people who lived during his Prophecy.
The Prophet Muhammed (SAWS) has said, as recorded in another Hadeeth that is agreed upon: “A man starts a fire that mosquitoes and other flies steer into. The man tries to keep the flies away from the fire, but can’t. But I (Muhammed) are your savior from the fire.”
Muhammed (SAWS) told about the Paradise that Allah has prepared for His righteous servants who had not been deceived by the world’s temptation and adornments. The Prophet Muhammed (SAWS) says: “It’s not poverty that I’m worried about for you. I am afraid that you will get into the competition of this life as the other nations got into the competitions of this life, and finally destroyed them.” Thus most of Muslims prefer to rest in this world that will end, instead of the afterlife (Jennah). Instead of following the Prophet (SAWS) for achieving Jennah in the hereafter, they decide to stay where they are. That is the reality; an important reminder to us all.
