Tomorrow, you will be one of them

Thanks due to Allah, the Lord of the worlds, The Ever Living, The Self-Existing; And prayers and peace be up on Prophet Mohamed who was sent by Allah as a Bearer of Glad Tidings and Warner.

Dear Muslims,

Aren’t we in state of great blessing, having good health and good life? Aren’t we enjoying these blessings day and night?

Look, how much blessings have we been given by Allah; houses, money, wives and children, food, water,…etc. Allah says: ‘‘And He giveth you of all that ye ask for. But if ye count the favours of God, never will ye be able to number them. Verily, man is given up to injustice and ingratitude’’ (14:34)

Recalling all these blessings, I ask you, did you think even for one day that you are going to leave all these things; and you are going to leave your house unwillingly without taking anything with you?

If you haven’t then I remind you with the words of Allah: ‘‘Every soul shall have a taste of death: And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.’’ (3:185)

And: ‘‘All that is on earth will perish: * But will abide (for ever) the Face of thy Lord,- full of Majesty, Bounty and Honour.’’ (55:26-27)

Dear brothers and sisters, have you ever visited your brothers who had left this life in their new homes (the graves), which has no light? Or have you ever thought to visit them? Have you thought or wondered about their condition? Have you ever visited them during the night to learn some wisdom and take some considerations for your life journey?

If you had been there visiting, then you would have thought about these graves where nothing accompany you but your deeds. You would have thought about yourself, when it is your turn to move to a similar place; when the most closest and beloved person to you says: “Let us hurry to burry him, there is no place for him among us anymore; burial is the honor of the deceased”. You would have thought when they take off your clothes and pour on water on your body, wrapped it with the shroud, fragrancing it with hanoot before currying it on shoulders to the grave; while the dearest to you are crying, your mother, wife, children, …etc. Then you would have remembered the hadith that was reported by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri:

When a body is laid out and the men carry it on their shoulders, if it was righteous, it says, 'Take me forward,' and it was it not righteous, it says, 'Woe to me, where are you taking it?'' Everything except man hears its voice. If he were to hear it, he would faint.” [al-Bukhari]; and wondered which of the two types will you be.

You would have finally wondered about what you will face after people has prayed on you and curried you to your final home in this earth; when they burry you in your grave and you hear them saying, quoting from prophet Mohamed:

Pray for forgiveness for your brother, and ask that he may be made steadfast, for even now he is being questioned.” [Abu Dawood]; when they leave you there alone while you hear the sound of their retreating footsteps while walking away from you.

Recalling all that, you would have imagined your self been asked by the two angels Munkir and Nakeer: “Who is your Lord? What is your Religion? What do you say about this man (prophet Mohamed)?”

At that moment your answer will be dependent on your deeds in this life; if you were righteous, you will answer correctly and vice versa. Subsequently, according to your answer, a door will then open allowing in either the gust of breezes and soothing fragrances from Paradise, or heat and flames of fire from Hell. At that time you will be either in a garden from the gardens of Paradise or a hole from the holes of Hellfire until the Judgment Day, as prophet Mohamed indicated.

Dear Muslims,

As we said, what follow after you die will only be dependent on your deeds. You are lucky to be still alive and have the possibility to do good deeds and act of obedience, in order to avoid the eternal punishment that starts when you are in the grave. You better wakeup from your heedless state and start working for the hereafter before it is too late. You better reform yourself and follow the path of Allah before your time in this life ends.

Allah, almighty says: ‘‘(In Falsehood will they be) Until, when death comes to one of them, he says: "O my Lord! send me back (to life),- * "In order that I may work righteousness in the things I neglected." - "By no means! It is but a word he says."- Before them is a Partition till the Day they are raised up’’ (23:99-100)

To help yourself do that, always put the fact of death in front of you; let it be a habit for you to bring the fact of death to your mind. Keep reminding yourself that everyone has limited time in this life that will end by his death, which can come at any moment; and that every day you live means you have less days to do good in this life. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Messenger of Allah (saws) said: “Remember more often the destroyer of pleasures – death.) [Al-Tirmidhi]

I ask Allah to confer His mercy upon us and forgive us, our parents, families, friends, and all Muslims, whether dead or a live. O Allah, make our graves a garden from the gardens of Paradise not a hole from the holes of Hellfire. Our lord, guide us and help us to obey you and follow Your path until we die. Our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the hereafter, and save us from the punishment in the Hellfire.

Amen
