Pleasure of Eid

Thanks to Allah the Greatest that he made us Muslims. We thank Him that He guided us by His book (Quran) and sunnah of His prophet (PBUH).

And we witness that there is no God but Allah alone with no partner and associate, Who has made Eids as seasons for the pleasure and joy for those who worship Him with true faith and obedience.

And we bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger, who has called the worlds to Allah by His permission.

Dear Muslims

Eid is special celebration and ritual occasions that was given to us Muslims. It is not made for us, as some may think, to relax from work, show off and enjoy food and drinks. It is not for us, as many do in these days, to be heedless from the remembrance of Allah and cross the religious borders by listening to music and making festivals celebrations that involves mixing between men and women. Rather, it is for us to thank Allah that he guided us to follow his path and be one of his obedient slaves. That is why you find that both Eids are coming after performing two great worships which constitute two of the five milestones of Islam, fasting Ramadan and Hajj. Ibn Rajab - may God have mercy on him – said: "The joys and pleasures of the faithful persons in this world is with their God when they have completed His worships and obedience, and gained reward that He promise to them by His grace and forgiveness; as Allah - the Almighty - says " Say: "In the bounty of God. And in His Mercy,- in that let them rejoice": that is better than the (wealth) they hoard. ". Yunus 58.

Muslims have only three Eids:

  1. On Friday, the Eid of the week, following the completion of the prescribed prayers. It is the days when the creation have completed, prophet Adam was created, prophet Adam was entered paradise and got out from it, and when the Dooms day come. It is the greatest day of the week and Allah forgives the sins of those who attend the Friday prayer, thus it deserves celebration. Prophet Mohamed said: (The five [daily] prayers, Friday to Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan make atonement for what has happened since the previous one when major sins have been avoided) Narrated by Muslim.

He also said: (The sun has never risen or set in a day better than Friday) Narrated by Al-Tirmidhi

  1. Eid Al-fitr:It is after completion of the fasting worship for one whole month. It is the day when the people who fast are given their rewards and forgiveness. People gather in this day to thank their Lord and celebrate the end of their worship.

  1. The second and the biggest Eid, which is Eid Al-Adha. It is after pilgrims have finished the main part of the pilgrim which is standing on Arafah. Prophet PBUH said “Hajj is Arafah”. At that day, Allah forgives sins and gives mercy to millions of Muslims; and that is why we are celebrating.

Dear People: The real Eid is for those who obeyed God, while grief for those who disobeyed Him. The feast is for those who fasted and spent their month in worships. It is for those who spent their nights praying, listening and reading Quran, not listening to the songs and melodies. Allah, Almighty says: " Say: "In the bounty of God. And in His Mercy,- in that let them rejoice": that is better than the (wealth) they hoard. ". Yunus 58.

One of the Salaf said: "No one can enjoy life away from the path of his Lord unless he is heedless."

Al-Hasan said: "Every day in which the person don’t disobey God can be considered as Eid; and everyday the person spend following Allah guidance, worshipping and thanking Him can be considered also as Eid"

Eid in Islam has its own concept and meaning. It is a religious pleasure that cannot be achieved without the obedience to God. It is joy for Muslims in this life, and symbol of their strength and brotherhood. It is also declaration to the triumph of the good will on the whims and desires. It is announcement of the freedom from the salvation of desire and lust in purpose to obtain the satisfaction of the Lord and the great rewards that He promised.

Some people, however, are overshadowed by the joy and the pleasure of the feast to the extent that they forget to do their duties of thanking and show gratitude to Allah. They forget that it is a blessing itself to find this pleasure which is not enjoyed by many. He is not aware that Eid may come to people who are humiliated, or who are experiencing sorrow because of calamity, poverty or other reason, making them not able to enjoy this joy.

So, fear Allah, be thankful for His blessings and abandon doing sins during Eid. Do not let your joy and desires override you to do things that make you gain the anger of Allah. Fear Allah and make the Eid full of worships and repentance in order to gain more and more rewards; and in hope that Allah will forgive your sins and accept your repentance.

Allah says: ‘‘Say: "O my Servants who have transgressed against their souls! Despair not of the Mercy of God: for God forgives all sins: for He is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful’’ Al-Zumar 53

‘‘"But, without doubt, I am (also) He that forgives again and again, to those who repent, believe, and do right, who,- in fine, are ready to receive true guidance."’’ Taha 82.

" Say: "In the bounty of God. And in His Mercy,- in that let them rejoice": that is better than the (wealth) they hoard. ". Yunus 58.

Dear Muslims,

While experiencing and enjoying the pleasure of Eid, we have to remember our brothers in Allah. We have to remember those who are oppressed, orphaned and those dying of hunger. We have to remember those who have lost their children, families and lands because of the wars, colonization and oppression. We have to remember our brothers in Afghanistan, Iraq, Palestine, Sudan, Chechnya, and other parts of the world. We have to remember them and try to feel their pain and grief. That will help us to understand and appreciate the values of the blessings we have. Then we have to spend some of our money and time to bring pleasure for those people. This can be by spending money for charity, visiting orphans and poor families and provide gifts for them, or any other acts that might help to bring pleasure for them; even as simple as praying to Allah for them.

O Allah, we ask you to bring honor, joy and victory to all Muslims in this Eid.
Oh Allah, support and bring victory to the Mujahideen in your path in every place,
Our Lord, pour upon us patience and make us successful.
Lord, give us good in this world good in the Hereafter and save us the agony of fire.

Amen

May Allah accept our worships and good deeds.

Wish you all a happy and nice Eid.
