The
best day of
the year is the Day of Arafah, and the best night of the year is Laylat
ul Qadr. It is recommended to fast on the Day of Arafah and doing more
good deeds in general, because good deeds are beloved by Allah and will
bring a great reward from Him. Fasting on the Day of Arafah will remove
two years of sins.
Celebrating Eid-ul Adha
Eid-ul Adha means The Festival of Sacrifice. It starts on the 10. Dhul
Hidja, and lasts for up to 3 days.
Men, women, and children are expected to dress in their finest clothing
and perform prayer (Salah) in a large congregation.
Muslims who can afford to sacrifice domestic animals, usually sheep,
should do so, as a symbol of Ibrahim's sacrifice; this sacrifice is
called "Qurbani." The meat is equally distributed amongst themselves,
their neighbours and relatives, and the poor and hungry.
Eid is celebrated with good clothing, good food and good deeds. Kind
smiles, thoughtfulness and consideration must influence the day more
than usually.
Muslims usually congratulate each other with ”Eid Mubarak” on the Eid
day.
The Sunnah of Eid
1. Wake up early on the day of Eid in order to prepare for the prayer
and other activities of the day.
2. Prepare by making ghusl, wearing nice clothing and wear perfume.
Perfume is only for men, not women.
3. Leave for the place where prayer is taking place early.
4. On the way to the prayer, recite the takbir (Allahu Akbar, Allahu
Akbar. La ilaha ill-Allah. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar. Wa-lilahill
hamd). (Allah is greater, Allah is greater. There is no god but Allah.
Allah is greater, Allah is greater. And all praises are for Allah).
5. It is important that the Eid be made in an open place other than the
usual mosque if possible (in case of inclement weather like rain, snow;
etc.).
6. Make the Eid prayer in congregation.
7. Upon completing the prayer, take a different route than you took to
arrive at the prayer grounds.
