The
film Arctic Islam is a documentary about Muslim children in Tromsø. Alnor
Senter has a project going to inspire Muslim youth about learning how to
make films. This project is coordinated by Sandra Maryam Moe who says it
is important that Muslims learn how to make their own documentaries,
instead of being misrepresented in Western documentaries. She wishes to
help Muslim youth to learn about film making, and use their youthful
energy to make creative films seen from a Muslim point of view.
Two
Muslim girls that got an opportunity to make their own documentary are
Nadia Hakmi 11 years old and Heda Ozdojeva 14 years old. These two girls
have done a great job, and they have been active in the whole film process,
from planning, theme, content, filming, effects, editing film clips, and
adding sound effects. Alhamdulillah! Arctic
Islam is a documentary showing some of the activities Muslim children have
in Tromsø. The film is made over 3 days in June 2007, and the main focus
is on the End of term of Quran and Arabic classes for children at Alnor
Senter. We
thank the film house Tvibit for lending out all the film equipment. See the film here
